Residence K is a tiny flat with 3 different levels. The biggest specialty is the remarkable Keelung river view at first sight when coming from the entrance, which is the main reason the owner bought the flat. Except for treasuring the view, the owner also wants space for static activities such as reading, meditating, and using a laptop for WFH.

We try to put the design effort into two staircases that connect three floors. The stair from the ground floor to the lower floor is a giant wooden volume that can store many objects in the drawer-formed steps. Extending the last step creates an engawa-like (Japanese-style corridor) platform, showing the invitation to enjoy the stunning view. A 90-degree fold at the end of the corridor develops the space for the owner to read and meditate on the slightly ascended platform.

The staircase to the private space, the main bedroom, is located in the middle of the flat. We chose flat stainless steel to avoid solidness and heaviness since there is already a massive staircase in the space. The structure is a white spiral staircase without angles and smooth handles, decreasing the intensity of vision. It is also a distinctive art piece in the house.
